Here at Piranha, we all know that one person in the office that is always happy, and can’t wait to get started with work every Monday morning, let alone in January. They’re sprinting around the office, catching up with everyone while you are still getting the sleep out of your eyes.
If you are finding yourself slumped over your office desk by 11 am - which now appears to have drops of dribble on it, then it may be time to do something to wash away those January blues. Before anyone gets hurt, or worse, fired!
A Desk Spring Clean
True, it is not yet spring but with that minor point aside, getting rid of all the needless junk and empty drink bottles on your desk can be a great way to cleanse your mind, as well as your desk. Old sticky notes and to-do lists can be dreadful at sapping energy you didn’t even know you were losing!
Remember: A tidy desk leads to a tidy mind.
Colours and Greenery
It is well known that different colours evoke different reactions and emotions in people. For example, red can mean romance or anger while yellow is typically accredited to happiness, and so on.
However, green is often thought to be a colour for productivity and peace, as it is seen as being both naturally calm and harmonious. Having a small desk plant at your workspace can work wonders for your mindset!
We understand and recognise the temptation you may have to throw a stress ball at the office goody-two-shoes, but resist the urge and simply squish it between your palms instead.
If need be, you can, of course, picture someone’s face on said ball but remember that the aim is to calm down and not to get yourself more worked up. All together now, deep breathing in three, two, one…
Did you know that it is also thought that occupying your hands while reading lengthy documents or emails can aid your concentration? Try it next time your clients send you a full-on essay.
Clear your Computer Desktop
Similar to your actual desk, it is important that your laptop or desktop computer is not cluttered with old files or emails that are taking up those precious seconds along with your sanity.
Hopefully, some of these tips will help you beat the January Blues and allow you to knuckle down and concentrate on the task at hand, regardless of those pesky workers you’d really rather avoid! For more advice and distractions, take five minutes and peruse our blog full of handy tips and trivia!
