Although we spend a lot of time at work and up and down the UK we hear the same joke about being chained to our office desks, the reason we stay there, day in day out, is as much to do with the people we work with as it is anything else. Now, we’re not saying that these people are perfect - and there will be disagreements along the way – but these people are your work family and it is important that we don’t take them for granted.
Taking the time to appreciate your co-workers – for their skills, knowledge, tea-making abilities and the fact they always keep their office desk spotless and you will build a stronger working relationship that you will all reap the benefits from.
Team spirit and morale is something that needs to be worked on in order for your team to work effectively. Negative attitudes and cynicism from just one source can impact the entire office, so it pays to show your colleagues appreciation and share good news regularly.
Studies show that people who receive recognition and appreciation feel more valued, more part of the team and business and more engaged in their roles.
Simply thanking staff and colleagues for turning up and working might not seem genuine as a long term solution, but there are many ways that you can show your appreciation.
Work on communicating your appreciation and respect your co-workers; and your entire office will feel the benefits of a happier, more productive workforce.
